“Mr. Alterman is to monologues as Almodovar is to movies: magical!”
Barcelona Press
“Here are tortured souls who race through their lives with the terrifying speed of a rollercoaster. Here is the giant ferris wheel that takes people to breathless heights. Made vivid by a rage of introspection, Alterman’s people find God in bed or sitting on the steps of a church on 42nd Street. A lucky few discover God in themselves. The people you meet here live lives of tragic beauty and brutally plain truth. Every story is a parable about people who have kissed, maybe danced with the Devil, and lived to tell of it.”
Andre De Shields- Director and star of one the productions of Glenn Alterman’s monologue plays
“Magnificent writing, fully realized, fascinating characters.”
Lanford Wilson, of the Circle Rep workshop of God In Bed
"Each monologue is an extremely well-written character study. Incredible writing. I highly recommend!”
Joseph Chaikin, director, teacher, writer

Dulcina Eisen, talent agent
"Absolutely compelling, each and every one. This is the real deal!"
Backstage Magazine

Grant Wilfley, casting director
"Top notch! Strong, fascinating characters"
Anna Marie Kostura, NBC Director of Daytime Casting
"These monologues are extraordinary! I am very high on Glenn Alterman’s work!"
Terry Schrieber, acting teacher
GOD IN BED has been described as a moveable feast. There have been many productions in Europe, each different than the other. The individual monologues, the sequence, the “dialogue” between the pieces, and the themes and story are all unique to the company of actors performing that particular production.
The original workshop was developed at Circle Rep Theater Company right before it’s demise. There have been many workshops and showcase productions since. This latest incarnation, was developed specifically for The Workshop Theater Company.
