The play has been described as a "provocative, poignant and humorous tale of a gay professor of Judaism, as he reflects on his roller coaster life, throwing him into a whirlwind of self-doubt, compassion and ultimately revelation".

Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Lanford Wilson has said of Solace: "Everything about this play is surprising, literate and wonderful."

Director Joseph Chaikin has called the play, " beautifully written, a fascinating play."  Solace was recently performed at Center Stage Theater.
